The Back Mobility Vitamin

Hello, digital work lovers! Spending long hours sitting at a computer or on a smartphone can lead to discomfort and back pain. According to the World Health Organization, about 60-70% of people will experience lower back pain at some point in their lives, making it a prevalent issue. In this post, I'll share my personal experience and the importance of back mobility exercises, sleep, and contrast showers for recovery. Let's dive into how these "vitamins" can improve the health of your spine and the quality of your life.

From Cirque du Soleil to digital work:

Before the pandemic, I was a Cirque du Soleil performer. However, when COVID-19 hit, I transitioned to digital work. This sudden change led to persistent lower back pain that I had to combat.
What I understood, From birth, we are given a set of back movements such as bending, tilting, and rotation. If these movements are not used, they disappear. It's quite simple - for a healthy back and a life without restrictions, you need to maintain these movements.

My struggle with back pain:

I sought help from various medical professionals. Although some treatments temporarily alleviated the pain, significant improvement only came after incorporating back mobility exercises

The exercises I incorporated into my daily routine support all spinal movements, ensuring that the spine maintains its full range of motion. These movements include:

  1. Flexion: Bending forward
  2. Extension: Bending backward
  3. Lateral flexion: Bending side-to-side
  4. Rotation: Twisting left and right

You will be surprised, but some of these natural movements you will already do with great difficulty. Having unlocked all these movements, you will feel the desired level of freedom. Life without pain.

Sleep and recovery:

Prioritizing sleep was an essential factor in my recovery. Adequate sleep is necessary for tissue repair, muscle growth, and inflammation reduction. By improving my sleep quality, I allowed my body to recover more effectively.

Contrast showers:

Implementing contrast showers - alternating hot and cold water - also helped speed up my recovery. This method improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and soothes sore muscles.

My back mobility journey:

I realized that my body has an incredible potential for self-healing. Incorporating simple yet effective back mobility exercises into my daily routine helped reduce pain and improve flexibility. A highly skilled physiotherapist recommended a holistic approach to recovery, including psychological rehabilitation and outdoor activities such as walking, swimming, sauna visits, massage, listening to music, and watching sports competitions. This comprehensive approach helped me overcome the pain and regain my quality of life.

The "back mobility vitamin": Consider back mobility exercises as a daily "vitamin" for your spine. These simple movements can help:

  • Prevent injuries and reduce pain
  • Improve flexibility and mobility
  • Correct muscle imbalances and posture
  • Enhance overall well-being and quality of life

If I could overcome back pain, so can you, my fellow digital work lovers! Incorporate these "vitamins" into your daily routine to improve your spine health, reduce pain, and enjoy a better quality of life. Let's get moving!
